Certifications

Our Commitment to Quality and Transparency

At Alter Eco, we believe that certifications are essential to running a successful and responsible business. They demonstrate our unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality standards in the food we create for our customers.

With these certifications, you can trust that our products not only meet rigorous standards but also align with our mission to support your health and the health of the planet. We want our customers to feel confident in what they’re putting into their bodies and feeding to others, knowing that every bite supports sustainable and regenerative practices.

USDA National Organic Program (NOP) Certified

All Alter Eco products are certified Organic, and it is a key pillar to our company mission. When you see the USDA Organic seal on our packaging, you can trust that our supply chain adheres to strict standards around the growing, processing, and handling of food. Every certified Organic business also goes through an annual inspection to maintain the certification, and Alter Eco is certified Organic by QAI for all products sold in the USA and Canada.

At the farm level, certified Organic farms use sustainable agricultural production practices that support biodiversity, soil health, and promote ecological balance. They use physical, mechanical and biological farming methods that support the cycling of on-farm resources. Conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, and irradiation are strictly prohibited. When you see the USDA Organic seal on our packaging, that means that all Alter Eco’s products are also non-GMO! Genetic engineering, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), is prohibited in certified Organic foods.

Fair for Life Fair Trade Certified

Fair For Life is an internationally recognized and comprehensive certification program for Fair Trade, another core pillar to Alter Eco’s company mission for many years. We take immense pride in achieving and maintaining this certification through Ecocert because it goes above and beyond other Fair Trade certification schemes.

Generally speaking, Fair Trade is a global movement to create equitable trading relationships, ensuring that producer groups (especially in disadvantaged regions) are receiving fair prices and wages. Fair Trade premiums are additional funds paid to these producer communities, and allocated for specific social, economic and environmental projects. This has a huge positive impact on the working conditions and livelihoods of farmers.

Fair For Life builds upon the foundation of other Fair Trade certifications, and has other requirements for certified operations around social responsibility, environmental sustainability, ingredient sourcing practices, supply chain transparency, and traceability of Fair For Life Fair Trade goods from production to sales. Their holistic approach to Fair Trade certification recognizes the interconnectedness of people and ensures that both people and planet are treated ethically and with respect.

Gluten-Free Certified

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and other hybrids that can cause a harmful autoimmune response for individuals with Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Alter Eco is proud to have several products that are gluten-free certified by the Gluten-Free Food Program (GFFP), which is uniquely endorsed and in partnership with the National Celiac Association. When you see the above logo on our packaging, you can rest assured that the product meets the strictest industry requirement of less than 5 parts per million (ppm) for gluten. GFFP takes a comprehensive approach to certification that involves 3rd party food safety certification for manufacturers, global regulatory compliance, stringent testing methods, product traceability, and an annual audit review process.

Certified B Corporation (B Corp)

Alter Eco has maintained the high standard of B Corp certification since 2009. B Corp certification recognizes those companies that strive to use business as a force for good in the world, balancing people, planet, and profit in all decisions. The certification is issued by the nonprofit organization B Lab. Their mission is to transform the global economy to benefit all stakeholders by promoting ethical business practices and sustainable growth and offer tools and resources for businesses to measure and improve their impact over time. Being verified by B Lab means meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Climate Neutral Certified

We believe that consumers and brands must all work together to address climate change and drive the world toward the net-zero greenhouse gas emissions future that climate science informs us is urgently needed. At Alter Eco, we're doing our part by measuring all our carbon emissions, developing comprehensive plans to reduce our carbon footprint, and investing heavily in offsetting our impact through initiatives set forth in this certification. The certifier is The Change Climate Project (TCCP), the impact-driven nonprofit organization behind the world’s most trusted and recognized climate label. They have their own software known as the Business Emissions Evaluator (BEE) that allows companies to measure and manage all corporate carbon emissions, and then take action to invest their dollars directly into climate solutions.

Compostable Certification & Recyclable Packaging

Landfills are filling up fast on this planet. At Alter Eco, we have made the commitment to only using compostable, recyclable, or post-consumer recyclable packaging for all our food products. This reduces the amount of waste heading to landfills and doesn't introduce new virgin plastics into the environment. We maintain a Home Compostable certification for our innovative chocolate truffle wrappers through TÜV AUSTRIA. They are made from tree fiber and non-toxic ink, meaning they will decompose naturally over time in your home/backyard compost!
